Manager’s Word 13th Jan 2012

I was pleased with last weekend’s game as the performance and spirit was 100% present. In any given game at any level there will always be team members who don’t feel at their most confident but the vital factor in every game is that every player gives their all, no matter how much they achieve during the 90 minutes. Last weekend I knew that every player that walked out onto that pitch would give the club their maximum and I was delighted they did just that.
We have recently strengthened the spine of the team and the additions of Alan White, Michael Brough and Paul Bolland have added a gritty edge to us. Since the injury to Adam we have looked fragile at times in the middle of the park but I am now confident that we will have real strength and character in this area, which is vital for any team.
We begin our journey to Bishop Stortford tomorrow at 9am and it’ll be a fair trek. This will not provide us with any excuse though if we do not return home having taken something from the game. Macca went to watch them play away to Boston on Tuesday and they performed well. We know they are on a decent run and we will have to prove that last weekend’s solid performance was not just a flash in the pan.
On Tuesday night the lads had a Thai Boxing session for an hour and a half. This looked really hard, but all the lads grafted and sometimes doing some alternative training can freshen things up a little. Matt, our Physio was teamed up with Danny Stimpson at one point but this clearly proved to be a mismatch that left our Physio needing some ice for himself! Last night we trained on the pitch, the lads were all fully committed. We want the results to turn just as much as the fans do. As long as we have a consistency of attitude, we are confident that the points will come.
There was some squad news last night as Michael Tait has left the club and Patrece Liburd has joined us. Patrece has been training with us for the last couple of months and in terms of attitude, is one of us. He is a fit lad but because he hasn’t played many games this year he will be playing on a non-contract registration for Thackley tomorrow. I expect him to be challenging very soon for a spot in our back four.
Looking forward to the game tomorrow.
