Boreham Wood Preview

Simon Weaver is hoping for a “positive mental response” as Town welcome Boreham Wood to The CNG Stadium on Saturday.

A 4-2 defeat to Torquay last time out was not helped by a contentious second yellow card for Jon Stead, arriving after Town were ahead thanks to the striker’s first two goals for the club.

Saturday’s opponents finished 20th last season on 52 points under the guidance of manager Luke Garrard.

Garrard took charge in October 2015 and at the age of 33, he is the youngest manager in England’s top five divisions.

The visitors make the 380-mile round trip on the back of an impressive 3-1 win over Dover Athletic who are currently in a play-off spot, A goal from Tyrone Marsh and a brace from Kabongo Tshimanga securing the victory.

Town will have to be wary of Tshimanga, one of seven new signings for Boreham Wood, who now has six goals from the opening ten games of the season.

Away from home, Boreham Wood have won two and lost three with their most recent trip ending in a 2-0 defeat to hands of Eastleigh.

The setback means The Wood have now scored seven goals and conceded six away from home.

Saturday’s visitors have accumulated the same number of points as Town this season (11) and currently lie 15th in table, two places higher due to a superior goal difference, with a Town victory leapfrogging them above Boreham Wood and potentially as high as 11th.

Town have had mixed fortunes against Garrard’s side, winning their first meeting 4-2 at Meadow Park, before a 1-0 defeat in the reverse fixture.
