Brackley Town Preview

After picking up maximum points over Bank Holiday weekend, Town welcome Brackley to The CNG Stadium as the league’s top two go head to head.

Both sides have won six and drawn one of their opening seven fixtures, and though The Saints have not quite matched Town’s 22 goals scored, Kevin Wilkin’s side have conceded just twice all season.

Wilkin is now in his third season as Brackley boss and will be looking to build on last season’s seventh placed finish that saw his side fall a point short of the play-offs.

Two 2-1 wins over Town helped the Saints’ reach their final league position, the latter of which was the last time Simon Weaver’s men came out on the losing side at The CNG Stadium.

Saturday’s opponents have not lost a league match since March, though with only one of the last ten meetings between the sides ending in a draw, this latest fixture could see one of the two remaining unbeaten records in the National League North disappear.

Bank Holiday Monday’s 2-0 win over Kidderminster Harriers sees Brackley go into the game having won eight of their last nine league games, and six of their last seven away.

Ben Parker could make his 40th appearance for the club on Saturday, but will need to keep James Armson from adding to his six goals already this campaign to record a third consecutive clean sheet.

Monday’s victory at Blyth Spartans means Town are two points better off than at this stage last season, and have now made the best start to a campaign since 2007/08.

The promising start will have to continue without the services of Captain Simon Ainge though, who’s groin injury rules out the striker.

Town will also be without Dom Knowles (broken foot), Louie Swain and Lloyd Kerry, while a midweek set back recoving from a broken arm means Liam Agnew will be absent for a couple more weeks.
