Bromley Preview

It’s back to National League action this weekend for Town with a trip to league leaders Bromley.

The Ravens were in Emirates FA Cup action on Sunday, securing an impressive 1-1 draw at League One Bristol Rovers, with the winners of Tuesday night’s televised replay hosting Plymouth Argyle in the Second Round.

Now in their fifth season at National League level, Bromley have lost the least games of anyone in the division (4) in 2019/20 under the guidance of former Fulham midfielder Neil Smith, who took the job in February 2016.

The South East London side sit four points clear of Town in seventh, a gap that was 11 points just ten games ago.

Hayes Lane has been a stronghold for Bromley recently, with Saturday’s hosts losing just one in 12 on their 3G surface and scoring in each of those games.

Smith’s side are the league’s top scorers in front of their own fans, averaging over two goals per game, with Michael Cheek and Reeco Hackett-Fairchild leading their scoring charts with eight and seven strikes respectively.

Despite their impressive home form, The Ravens’ momentum has slowed of late, with Smith’s side registering just two wins from their last seven National League fixtures.

Town meanwhile have lost just one of their last ten league outings, with defeat at Eastleigh a fortnight ago bringing to an end a five-match unbeaten streak away from home and ten game sequence overall.

Simon Weaver’s side have won seven of their last nine National League fixtures, finding the net in their last 11, a run that stretches back to mid-September, and last seven on the road.

Last season’s first meetings between the sides were tight affairs, James Belshaw putting on a goalkeeping masterclass to secure a draw at Hayes Lane in August, before Jack Muldoon’s 94th minute penalty secured all three points for Town in March at The CNG Stadium.

Highlights

Saturday will see a familiar face return to South London, as Town’s joint top scorer Brendan Kiernan returns to a ground where he enjoyed two spells as a player, in 2013 and 2015.
