Town got back to winning ways on Tuesday night, coming from behind to beat Barrow 4-2 and move to fourth place in The National League and only two points off the top.
Looking to carry on a run that has seen Town lose just twice all season, Simon Weaver’s men welcome ex – Football League heavyweights Chesterfield to The CNG stadium.
Joe Leesley celebrated his 100th
league appearance for Town with a Man of the Match performance and two assists in the midweek game takes the winger’s total for the season to 13.
Also on the scoresheet was Captain Josh Falkingham, who picked up his first goal of the season, and Mark Beck, who claimed his third.
After relegation from the Football League last season, The Spirities have had a tough start to life in the National League.
Despite opening the season with three straight wins, the Derbyshire side have failed to win since and are currently on a run of 15 games without a win and sit 19th
place in the table.
Chesterfield are managed by Martin Allen who played more than 100 games as a midfielder for both Queens Park Rangers and West Ham United before finishing his playing career with Portsmouth and Southend United.
Five years after retirement, Allen took his first job in management at non-league Barnet and has since managed Brentford, Milton Keynes Dons, Leicester City, Cheltenham Town and Notts County.
In May, Allen was appointed manager of Chesterfield, who along with first managerial employers Barnet, had seen relegation from the Football League at the end of the 2017–18 season.
This Saturday’s clash will be the first time that Town and Chesterfield have played against each other, with the sides more than two leagues apart in recent years.
The Town defence will have to wary of Tom Denton, The Yorkshireman is no stranger to the National League, having won promotion with FC Halifax Town.
Denton then played a season at National League level prior to starting his second spell at Alfreton in May, Denton scored six goals in nine games before his move to Chesterfield in September.
