FA Trophy Final - Sunday Build-Up

You can find all the build-up to Monday evening's FA Trophy Final here...

We've been speaking to the Gaffer and Connor Hall, as well as taking a behind the scenes look at preparations!

Inside Training pre Concord Rangers...

Watch the Gaffer’s pre-match press conference ahead our FA Trophy Final om Monday evening…

The Gaffer on the squads mindset…

We’re focused and really up for it. The game the other night was superb but minds are firmly fixed on the final at Wembley against Concord. It’s a massive game for the club and we got through training unscathed which can always be a worry before a big game.

We’re just so excited about it, it’s an amazing experience. We were lucky to have the opportunity last year and this time again, I can’t wait and there probably won’t be much sleep tonight.

On our journey to the Final…

There’s quite a few memories. Our opening game of the competition we were 2-0 down after 75 minutes and we thought we were pretty horrific for that first 75. To then go on and win the game was a buzz.

Then of course the quarter final against AFC Fylde, they were dramatic circumstances and you look at the lads, Joe Cracknell for example who had to weather the storm and Jack Muldoon who got the winner, it was quite incredible.

We had a tight game with Notts County just a couple months after the Playoff Final and we got through that and it was a big win for us. We’ve deservedly got to the final, just like Concord have. It’ll be two good footballing teams.

On Concord Rangers…

I think they’ll try to keep it tight but they’ve got some good attacking midfielders and sharp lads up front as well.
There’s size across their defensive unit so we’ll be expecting a really tough game.

We’re looking forward to a footballing game and it’s going to be a tough battle. You’ve seen in the FA Cup some epic games and some which are hard battles. I think Monday evening could be a bit of both.

On using experience from our previous trip to Wembley…

Hopefully we can draw on a good experience and use it to good effect. We don’t want to take anything for granted though and lose that edge that we had last time. We had a good blend of hunger and confidence but if we take Monday’s Final lightly, we’ll soon get swept away by a good, strong team.

On how the win against Cambridge will benefit the group…

They’ve put pressure on the other lads. That drives performance levels more than any training session or one to one video session. If the lads know there’s that quality when they look behind them on the bench or in the stand, they know they need to up their game to keep their place.

We’ve also been chatting to defender Connor Hall about his Wembley memories and how he’s hoping he and the lads can taste victory again at Wembley…

Hall on how he’s feeling ahead of the final…

I’m looking forward to it. I feel good and had a rest on Friday but I’m ready to go again. Personally for me it was nice to get a rest. Even though you always want to play games, to get the rest just before Wembley, it was nice to have.

The lads delivered on the night [against Cambridge] it was a great win for them and there were some really good performances from the lads as well.

On the mood in the camp…

Everyone has been buzzing on the training pitch today, a few comments going round and a lot of banter so yeah it’s been really lively.

On memories of playing at Wembley last season…

Just scoring that goal, winning the trophy but importantly how we played in the first half, we just blew Notts County away.

We went into it feeling like the underdogs but to go out there and be all over them and 2-0 up and half time, it couldn’t have been any better. It’s great memories and I scored as well so hopefully we can create similar memories on Monday.

On the buzz of playing at Wembley…

It will never get old, no matter how many times you play there. It’s an unbelievable stadium and where you want to play growing up as a kid. You go watch games at Wembley and think you’d love to play here. We’ve had the chance twice now. Obviously we won the first time and it would be great to do it again.

It’s a cup competition and we want to win it, that’s why you enter them. It’s very important for us to win it although we’re not in the league anymore, it’s a competition we took part in last year and we want to win the cup.
