First Team Squad Update

We can now offer the following update on our first team squad…

Michael Woods, Dominic Knowles and Jordan Thewlis have all left the club upon the expiry of their contracts.

Woods was in his second spell at the club having signed from Hartlepool in November and made 18 appearances since returning, helping Town to a sixth place finish in The National League.

“He has been a fantastic player and person to have around and he will be missed.” Said Simon Weaver.

“He found himself on the fringes of the team and is in a position now where he needs to go and play games.

Thewlis meanwhile departs with over 100 appearances to his name in a Town shirt.

“He’s another great character and great professional who has been unlucky with injury recently.

“He was a great threat for us to have towards the end of the season and played a big part in our important win over Gateshead that got us over the line and into the Play-Offs.” Added Weaver.

Another player departing with over 100 appearances for the club is Knowles, who leaves with 46 goals and 29 assists in that time.

The striker played a monumental part in Town achieving promotion to The National League, scoring twice in the Semi-Final against Chorley and Final against Brackley, on the back of a five goal performance against Curzon on the final day of the season.

“Dom has had a huge impact on the club and there are certainly no doubts about his talent, but again injuries have been a source of frustration for him and the club.

“He got us over the line last season and was fantastic for the first ten or so matches, firing us to the top of the league.”

“Ultimately the squad needs to be trimmed to then be strengthened for next season and that is what we are aiming to do.”

“A big thank you to all three players departing for their contributions to the club, we would like to wish Dom, Jordan and Woodsy all the best for the future.” Said Weaver.

Elsewhere Liam Kitching and Jack Senior have returned to Leeds United and Luton Town respectively upon the completion of their loan deals.

Having joined on January 31st,Senior made six appearances for Town; impressing on the left of a back four and five during his time at the club.

Kitching was in his second spell at the club having first signed in January 2018 and played a key part in Town's first ever National League season, leaving with 49 appearances and seven goals to his name.

We would like to thank both players for their efforts and wish them good luck for the future.
