We are delighted to announce the signing of striker Sam Jones from Shrewsbury Town.
The 27-year-old will wear the number 10 shirt at Town and has enjoyed a remarkable rise up the English Football pyramid since returning to the game with NCEL side Retford in 2013.
Having spent his younger years at Leeds United, where he was capped for Wales at U19 level, Jones followed Retford with a move to Heanor Town, where he finished the 2014/15 season as top scorer and was named Fans Player of the Year.
The 6ft2 frontman was soon snapped up by Alfreton, where 17 goals in 41 appearances saw Jones again move up the leagues, with National League Gateshead his next destination.
Jones hit double figures in his spell at Neil Aspin’s Gateshead, before joining League Two Grimsby in January 2017 and again reaching double figures for goals.
A year later and the 27-year-old made another step up, this time to League One Shrewsbury, though after just five appearances for The Shrews and a loan spell at Cheltenham, the 27-year-old becomes Simon Weaver’s seventh Summer addition.
“We needed to strengthen the squad in the attacking third.” Said the Harrogate Boss.
“We have always followed his progress, he has had a frustrating time of it these past 18 months, so we have a hungry player with a point to prove.
“I feel that he can provide us with some big moments in some big games, he’s powerful, can strike it well with both feet and has got good experience.
“He’s up for it and has the quality and confidence you need to be able to perform on this stage.”
We would like to welcome Sam to the club and look forward to seeing him in action in a Town shirt.
