PDC U14/15 3 Chesterfield 3

The noise of Sheffield trams trundling down ice cold steel tracks filled the crisp winter breeze blowing across the impressive St George’s Park Graves complex the home of Chesterfield’s Youth Academy.

Yellow and Black lined up against the Blue and White of a Chesterfield side that have had impressive wins this season including Hull City who Town narrowly lost to in November.

The young Spireites started on the front foot taking the game to Town pressing down both channels and grasping control of midfield.

Much like the match against Hull City whilst the opposition had the greater possession they were playing in areas that they were allowed and the lines of Town were compact and patient.

As the half went on Town began to play higher and pressured the final third more regularly.

On the half hour Chesterfield had a central attack which was followed up with a tap in and Chesterfield took a deserved lead.

A quick turn around and Town began the brighter team which was quickly rewarded by Joe Payette’s reaction at a corner, a put down by the keeper, two shots and there you have it 1-1.

The pattern of the match settled back much as it was in the first 45 and Chesterfield finally got their reward from a sweeping low shot from outside the box that narrowly beat Frank Greenwood at the far post, 2-1.

The Town Academy began to settle at last and looked more comfortable on the ball, stronger in the tackle and more adventurous in attack.

With 15 to go Payette struck again inside the box to equalise which was quickly followed up with a counter attack and with five to go it was 3-2 to the hosts.

Not deterred the Town lads shifted the ball quickly seeking the third and in the last minute of time Tom Addley latched on to a decisive forward ball and was brought down by a trailing leg, penalty.

Payette was handed the ball and as cool as the prevailing Easterly wind slotted comfortably to the keeper’s left as the keeper dived to his left, 3-3 and the final whistle 20 seconds later.

Town’s First Team equalised against Chesterfield in the 97th minutes in their Vanarama National League home fixture earlier this season and the U14/15 Academy struck in a similar fashion.

Another step forward for the Player Development Centre, more experiences and more to come.
