In contrast to recent outings, Town found themselves on the wrong side of a 1-0 scoreline as Stevenage took all three points at Lamex Stadium.
The decisive moment came in the 52nd minute as goalkeeper Jamie Cumming's long clearance set Elliott List one on one with James Belshaw from where he was able to find the net.
Simon Weaver made one change from Tuesday night's trip to Barrow as match winner Jack Muldoon was handed a first start since the 26th January, taking the place of Josh March.
There was one change in the hosts' ranks too, with Alex Revell restoring Luke Prosser to the starting line-up.
Town enjoyed the lion's share of the ball in the opening exchanges, with Dan Jones and George Thomson both testing Cumming with low long range efforts.
The hosts created the first chance of the afternoon when James Belshaw's clearance was hooked back towards Elliott List, who couldn't stretch far enough to guide his header home.
Town continued to look slick in possession, but were limited to strikes from range in the first half, with Lloyd Kerry also seeing his attempt kept out.
Chances arrived more frequently in the second half with both Muldoon and Newton going close inside the opening five minutes, before the deadlock was eventually broken.
Cumming caught Jones' long throw and looked to release List, who ended up through on goal after Ryan Fallowfield's header had fallen kindly into his path, allowing him to round Belshaw and give his side the lead.
Town had the chance to get back into the game in the 73rd minute as Thomson's free kick delivery found an unmarked Warren Burrell, but the defender couldn't hit the target.
That would be Town's best chance of taking home a point with no more chances falling the way of the visitors, despite the best efforts of second half substitute Josh March.
