Town Shadow Squad 2-2 Burnley Shadow Squad

Town’s young, talented shadow squad's first match of the season at The CNG Stadium concluded in a 2-2 draw which ebbed and flowed in a very entertaining encounter.

The early exchanges saw both teams have good spells of possession testing each other without creating too many chances.

The stalemate was broken in the 15th minute when Burnley’s striker bent a brilliant effort past Ed Routh and into the far corner.

Gabe Hopkinson and Bankole Claudius-Cole had the pick of the Town chances in the first half, but the Burnley keeper was equal to the efforts.

Town came out strongly in the second half and went on the front foot, after a few half chances the inevitable happened when Claudius-Cole found space in the box to smash a low drive past the Burnley keeper.

One became two moments later when a Seb Henry corner was headed home by Alex Ingham.

Burnley were still creating chances and when they won the ball inside the Town half the attacker was played through and finished very well to equal the score.

Both teams had chances to win the game as both pressed forward, but a couple of very good saves apiece from Burnley’s goalkeeper and Towns second half goalkeeper, James Crawfurd-Porter made sure the score line stayed level.

The best chance of the second half fell to Town in the last minutes, after Hopkinson forced the keeper into another great one on one save, the ball fell to Brad Raw in the box but he couldn’t keep his shot down.

A fair result all equal at 2-2 with a very good performance from Town with only one training session so far under their belt, more to come and very encouraging.
