Despite the Championship side playing at a higher level, it was Town who took the lead towards the end of the first half when Prince Attakorah threaded a perfectly weighted through ball through the middle of The Tigers central defence that Day ran on to finish.

Town lined up with a mix of first team and U21 players with the likes of Jack Vann and Mitch Curry looking to push themselves into the first team starting line-up, while the U21 team were looking to do enough to be involved in our upcoming West Riding County Cup tie.

The Championship visitors could not take their chances when they came, the same can’t be said for Day who emphatically claimed his second with ten minutes to play, beating the Hull stopper with a powerful finish at his near post.

The last action of the evening saw Day almost complete his hat-trick as Curry rounded the Hull goalkeeper and crossed towards his strike partner who couldn’t quite climb high enough to nod into an empty net.

U21 Manager Josh Falkingham was delighted with his side’s showing. He said: “Performance wise we were excellent from minute one, the intensity on show was exactly what myself, Simon and Paul are looking for.

“We were up against a really strong team tonight, but matched them all the way through and didn’t give them the time or space to dictate play as they expected to do.

“We did the basics right, and when you add hard work to that it brings results, and we definitely deserved the win this evening.

“Every single one of us worked as hard as each other and tonight goes to show how much quality we have and that we are good enough to get results against any opposition.”

Falkingham’s side are back in league action on Thursday 9th November with a trip to Hemsworth Miners Welfare FC.
