Weaver Expecting Cracking Cup Tie

Ahead of tomorrow’s FA Trophy Second Round trip to St Albans, Simon Weaver vowed to show the competition the same respect that has so far seen Darlington and Wrexham overcome.

He told BBC Radio York: “Whoever wins tomorrow is through to the last 16 and then the competition becomes really exciting.

“It is a difficult trip, we had them watched last week and have watched videos of them; they have got some good young players themselves and play a similar way to us so it should be a cracking cup tie.

“I don’t think we can afford to be disrespectful towards competitions like the FA Trophy, a trip to Wembley surely is enough incentive for clubs at this level to really have a good go.

“Hopefully we will take a good group of supporters that are right behind us.”

Like Wrexham in the previous round, Town will be facing an opponent for the first time, though National League South opposition bring with them a different challenge.

Weaver added: “You have to do more digging because you don’t know those players half as well, but it is good to meet different people in the game.

“Everyone is hard at it, there is a good level of honesty in these levels and if it another contact we make then great.”

Town will be looking to get over the disappointment of defeat at Nuneaton on Tuesday night, though Weaver insists there will be no hangover from the 2-1 reverse at Liberty Way.

He said: “You have to get over disappointments and we have done just that to be honest.

“There is no hangover effect, one thing we don’t do is sulk, we point out where we have got to be better and we will strive to do so but there is not a lot of chop and change at all.

We have got a way of playing and we just have to keep drilling that in in training and make sure people know their roles.”
