Woking Preview

Our first Southern trip of the season sees us make a first visit to Kingfield Stadium to take on Woking FC.

Having taken over as Woking Manager in May 2018 following The Cards relegation from the National League, despite starting the season with just one contracted player and a whole host of other issues to be resolved both on and off the pitch, Alan Dowson enjoyed a superb first season as boss, earning an immediate return to the National League with promotion via the play-offs.

The Cards had previously spent six year’s in the top flight of Non-League football, with former Darlington and Gateshead player Dowson, now in his second season at the club, hoping for a similarly successful spell.

Woking have started the season with a win and a defeat, defeating Dagenham and Redbridge 2-0 away from home on the opening day, before losing out 1-0 at home to Aldershot on Tuesday night.

Town will be looking to build on Tuesday’s impressive 3-0 win at Barrow and opening day draw with Solihull, though come up against a side who know where the back of the net is, only Champions Torquay scored more in last season’s National League South.

Having also made the switch from Hampton & Richmond Borough with Dowson, Max finished the last campaign as the club’s top scorer with 13 goals in The National League South.

Kretzchmar will be key as Woking try and cement their place at National League level and will be desperate to continue his rich run of form.

Despite achieving promotion, seven clubs had better records at home in the South than Woking last year, something Town will be looking to take confidence from when aiming for a second away win in five days.

Travelling Town supporters should note there is no segregation in place, while all entry prices include seating at no extra cost with burger bars open from 12.30pm.
