Wrexham Preview

Third in the National League takes on third in the National League North on Saturday as Town travel to Wrexham in the FA Trophy First Round.

The trip to The Racecourse Ground will be the first time Town have faced The Dragons, who have been members of Non-League’s top tier since dropping out The Football League after an 87-year stay in 2008.

Under Dean Keates, the Welsh side are on track for a return to League Two and sit just two points behind leaders Macclesfield after losing to the table toppers on Saturday.

Keates’ side have not lost back to back matches this season, though the Wrexham Manager has admitted he may make ‘one or two’ changes for the clash.

Both sides exited the competition at this stage last season, though Wrexham have a proud history of success in the Trophy having won the competition in 2013, with Keates as Captain, and finishing as runners-up two seasons later.

The Dragons are unbeaten in their last 11 home fixtures and have conceded the least home league goals in the National League, though Town have found the net in each of their last 12 away trips.

Town remain the National League North’s top scorers, though only one team has a better defensive record in The National League than Wrexham.

At the other end of the pitch only the league’s bottom four have scored less goals than Keates’ side, though with seven goals to his name already Chris Holroyd will be one for Town defenders to keep an eye on.

Simon Weaver will be without Dominic Knowles and Jack Emmett, though both Ryan Fallowfield and Mark Beck are available, while Lloyd Kerry is nearing a return after completing a full game against Pontefract on Monday.
