YOUTH | Rotherham U16's 1 Town U17's 3

Harrogate Town recorded an impressive win over Rotherham U16’s Academy team in only their third friendly.

The first half saw Harrogate have most of the ball and look very dangerous whenever they came forward.

The first goal came when Louie Verity slid the ball through for Gus Steele, who's deep run from midfield caught the Rotherham back line out, before a calm finish put Town ahead.

Rotherham hit back five minutes later when their striker got through the defence and, after a brilliant recovery tackle from Tom Palmer, the ball fell at the feet of the Rotherham player who fired home.

Harrogate regained the lead when some great work down the right from Connor Weal and Hamish forced a corner. Carl Robinson's drilled balled to the back post was met by an acrobatic header from James Richardson and the looped into the top corner.

Another spell of Harrogate possession saw some quick passing through the middle of the pitch where Robinson's strong run was only stopped when a Rotherham centre back brought him down illegally. Steele stepped up confidently and found the bottom corner for his second of the game.

Harrogate had a chance to make it 4 when Sam Phoenix latched onto a great through ball From Olly Heselgrave and, after doing well to hold off the centre back, forced the goalkeeper into making an excellent one on one save.

The second half was a much less eventful one that saw Rotherham have much more of the ball, but not break through after a dominating display from the Harrogate centre backs Heselgrave and Brook Nugent.

Some excellent defensive work through the middle of the pitch from Robinson and Steele resulted in Rotherham having to try their luck from range where their efforts were comfortably saved.
