North Ferriby Preview

20 December 2017

Harrogate Town welcome North Ferriby to The CNG Stadium on Saturday in the last home game of 2017.

The Villagers face an almighty task to avoid back to back relegations after a dismal first half of the season.

Ferriby currently sit bottom of the National League North with just one win and seven points to their name.

Chris Bolder, brother of former Town midfielder Adam, was given the task of making up a 15-point gap to safety at the end of November, but has so far been unable to turn results around, with a 1-0 home defeat to Curzon Ashton on Tuesday night the latest setback.

Saturday's opponents have recently undergone a change in ownership, but remain the league's lowest scorers (9), and have conceded the most goals this season (51).

The Yorkshire side are without a win in 18 attempts in all competitions, have not kept a clean sheet in their last 15 fixtures and have scored just once in their last six games.

Three of the last four meetings between the sides have gone the way of Harrogate, including earlier this season when goals from Simon Ainge and Joe Leesley secured an away win for Town.

Another success for Simon Weaver's side on Saturday will have to be done without Ainge though, who is ruled out along with Dominic Knowles, though Jack Emmett is edging closer to a return.

Town have lost just one of their last ten league games at The CNG Stadium, and have found the net in all but one this calendar year.

Last weekend's FA Trophy win at Wrexham was Town's first clean sheet in 11 matches, but Ryan Fallowfield will be hoping to make it two in a row against his former club.

A 1-0 victory at promotion rivals Blyth Spartans is did give Ferriby fans some cheer earlier this season, and Weaver will be desperate to avoid another surprise result.

He said: “Adam was a superb player for me during his time at Harrogate Town and was instrumental during our good cup run, and Chris will give them a lot more grit in my opinion.

“This will be a hard test for us. We must be right at it and there can be no let up.”
