Darlington Preview

21 November 2017

Our FA Trophy campaign gets underway on Friday night as we travel to Darlington in the Third Qualifying Round.

Boss Tommy Wright has been in charge at Blackwell Meadows for just over a month now, following the departure of Martin Gray to York City, but has so far only seen his side win once.

Darlo missed out on the playoffs last season as their ground was not at the required standard for promotion, despite a fifth placed finish, but currently sit 14th and closer to the relegation zone than the top seven.

Points accumulated over the past 15 games would see Darlington just one place above the drop zone, with only the bottom three having won fewer matchers this season.

The Quakers have recorded the most draws in the National League North though, and Wright will be hoping the addition of Tamworth frontman Reece Styche can help turn those draws into wins.

Town have also strengthened their attack in recent weeks with Mark Beck pushing for his Harrogate debut against his former side, alongside Josh Falkingham who could also run out against his previous employer.

Simon Weaver's side have lost just one of 12 away from home; winning nine, and will be looking for a repeat of their last trip to Blackwell Meadows where a Simon Ainge goal either side of Lloyd Kerry's finish secured a 3-2 win.

Friday's opponents have just one win in their last ten, and two wins in their last nine at home having failed to score in five of those outings on home soil.

A win for The Quakers would see them beat last season's FA Trophy performance when they were eliminated by Marine, while Town will be looking to reach the First Round for the second successive year.
