Just over 150 young soldiers from the Army Foundation College, as well as soldiers, officers and their families from the Dishforth Garrison, were part of a crowd close to 1400 who all came to watch Town beat Boston United in the latest National League North contest.
Families were entertained at the various army stands which gave a brief insight to the life of a soldier, the armoured truck was climbed all over by youngsters and the Ghurkas provided a spectacular tribal dance on the pitch before kick-off; those ceremonial daggers looked sharp.The Football Club has slowly built its community links with the Town over the last four years, and is getting closer to service men and women across the District forms part of that work.
After the match a cheque for £150 was presented to Lt Col Richard Hall MBE for the Army Families Foundation; money that was collected from corporate guests at half time.
Buckets were being rattled in the stands collecting for the Army Benevolent Fund, and the Lord Lieutenant for North Yorkshire, Mr Barry Dodd CBE presented the Man of the Match award to Terry Kennedy immediately after the final whistle.
We also had the pleasant company of Councillor Anne Jones Mayor of the Borough of Harrogate.
Altogether a very pleasant afternoon and all topped off with a good performance, great support in the stands, and three points.
