On Wednesday 15th November over 100 school children from nine different primary schools took part in a mini football tournament at The CNG Stadium.
For the last few months the club has been working with the National League Trust, whose partners include The Premier League and The PFA, to go into local primary schools and provide free multi skills coaching sessions.
Pupils from Fountains Grantley, Pannal, St Joseph's, Western, Rossett Acre, Bishop Monkton, Oatland Juniors, Aspin Park and St Mary's all received Harrogate Town goody bags, match tickets and an insightful talk from Manager Simon Weaver.
Fountains Grantley were the eventual winners, beating Aspin Park in a keenly contested final, and will go on to represent Harrogate Town in the regional rounds of the National League Cup.
The previous Monday saw local girls get the chance to compete, with St John Fisher's brand new 3G pitch providing the setting for pupils from Aspin Park, Willow Tree, Western, Pannal, St Mary's and Saltergate.
Working with Harrogate School Sports Partnership we have created a pathway for the top teams in both boys and girls to represent Harrogate Town in the National League Trust's U11 Cup; the final of which is played at Wembley Stadium.
Harrogate Town Community Foundation has been working in primary schools across the district and will be expanding its work to all 63 primary schools; developing young people through sport and introducing them at an early age to a healthy and active lifestyle.
The club's 3G Playing Surface has enhanced sporting opportunities for everyone in the Harrogate District and without it today would not have happened, the pitch has allowed the growth of football at both primary and secondary school level as well as District and County football.
We would like to thank all participating schools, as well as volunteers from Indigo Planning who helped make the day an enjoyable experience for all.
