Spennymoor 3 Town 1

11 November 2017

Harrogate Town's run of seven consecutive away wins came to an end of Saturday afternoon as Town were beaten 3-1 by fourth place Spennymoor.

Moors took the lead just two minutes in as David Foley volleyed home on the turn from the edge of the area, 16 minutes before Glen Taylor made it 2-0 at the far post.

Andrew Nelson's first Town goal looked as thoughh it would set up an interesting second half, but Robert Redshaw's 40th minute finish made overturning the score too big an ask.

Captain Josh Falkingham struck the post in the second 45, but Town were forced to suffer just a second defeat in their last 19 league games.

Simon Weaver named the same starting line-up that won 2-1 at Alfreton a fortnight ago with Sunderland loanee Nelson spearheading the attack.

Town found themselves behind after just two minutes as Foley expertly controlled the ball on the edge of the area before turning and finishing on the volley after the hosts had seen consecutive corners cleared away.

The visitors first chance came after ten minutes after Liam Agnew fed Jack Emmett in on the right of goal, though the midfielder's shot was too high, moments before Nelson's back post header bounced off the top of the bar and away.

While the hosts' opener was an excellent finish, Town will feel the second after 18 minutes could have been avoided as Ryan Hall's low cross evaded both James Belshaw and Terry Kennedy to find Taylor unmarked and able to double his side's lead.

Emmett almost pulled a goal back five minutes later, but saw his finish hooked off the line after Falkingham had released the midfielder in behind.

Town's goal eventually arrived in the 34th minute as Nelson converted Emmett's cross at the back post to claim his first Harrogate Town goal, and halve the deficit.

Within six minutes the hosts restored their two goal advantage as Foley's cross was only cleared as far as Ramshaw, who was left in too much space at the edge of the area and found the far corner.

Town went into the second half behind, but almost reduced the deficit for a second time as Falkingham's 30 yard strike bounced back off the post six minutes after the restart.

With Town piling men forward searching for a way back into the game, Moors tried to hit on the counter, and almost did just that on the hour mark, only for Belshaw to deny Foley a second goal at point blank range.

Weaver introduced Jordan Thewlis in an effort to break the Spennymoor ranks, but the forward's initial involvement was to see his shot blocked.

Mitch Curry was also introduced late on, but it was the hosts that looked the more likely with Foley heading over from a couple of yards out in the closing minutes as Town were sent home with nothing.
