Alfreton 1 Harrogate Town 2

28 October 2017

Ten man Harrogate Town claimed a first win at Alfreton for almost ten years as Simon Weaver's side made it seven away wins on the bounce.

Town made a lightening start to the contest as Joe Leesley converted a penalty three minutes in before Jack Emmett, who had won the spot kick, finished to make it two four minutes later.
The Reds responded through Tom Allan's header, but couldn't complete their comeback in the second half, even after Leesley was shown a second yellow card.
Weaver named the same starting XI that line up against Bradford Park Avenue on Tuesday night.
Just like against Avenue on Tuesday night, Town were awarded a spot kick after three minutes when Jack Emmett was brought down just inside the box.
Leesley then made amends for his midweek miss by placing the kick straight down the middle to give Town an early lead.
That lead was doubled just four minutes later when Ben O'Hanlon skipped past his marker on the left wing and pulled back for Emmett to convert on the stretch.
Ryan Jennings had a sight of goal for the hosts after a goal mouth scramble, but Town continued to look the more dangerous as Leesley's cross/shot connected with the face of the cross bar.
The Reds started to play better after the half hour mark and went close through Tom Platt's header before pulling a goal back ten minutes before the break as Allan headed Brendon Daniels' free kick down and in.
The last chance of an action packed 45 minutes fell to Ryan Fallowfield who latched on to Liam Agnew's lofted pass, but was denied at the near post by Chris Elliott.
Three minutes after the restart Town were reduced to ten men as Leesley was shown a second yellow card for illegally bringing an Alfreton counter attack to an end.
Now with a man advantage, Alfreton started piling men forward and almost equalised through Luke Shiels, but James Belshaw claimed the former Town man's header.
McDermott introduced Craig Westcarr in an attempt to get his side level and his decision nearly paid off when the substitute rounded Town's goalkeeper and tried to finish, only for Terry Kennedy to rescue his side by scooping off the line.
Weaver responded with a change of his own as Mitchell Curry entered the action; nearly making it three after latching onto Josh Falkingham's through ball but firing past the far post.
Emmett and Allan had chances to add to their earlier goals, but neither was able to take them before Belshaw ensured his side returned home with a seventh straight away win tipping Brendon Daniels' well struck free kick over as we entered stoppage time.
