Curzon Ashton Preview

4 October 2017

Attention switches back to league action on Saturday as Town travel to Curzon Ashton on Non-League Day 2017.

The Nash are participating in their third season in the National League North since promotion from the Evo-Stik Northern Premier League under the guidance of John Flanagan; now in his seventh season in charge of the club.

Following a club high 11th finish the year before, Flanagan's side ended last season in a respectable 14th position, the same place they find themselves this season.

Saturday's hosts are only one win away from the play-off positions though, and are unbeaten in their last six National League North fixtures.

Town ended up on the losing side the last time they visited Tameside with a 1-0 defeat in December 2016 sending Simon Weaver's side home empty handed, and a home record currently the division's fifth best means Town will have to be at their best this weekend to secure a different outcome.

Despite their strong home form, Curzon have won just two of their last ten matches, while Town have won six of their seven away games this season; only Stockport have prevented Weaver's side claiming all three points on their travels.

Another away success on Saturday would make it six in a row, and ten without defeat on the road for a side who have lost just one match in 17 in all competitions and remain the league's top scorers.

Weaver said: “Saturday is a big challenge again playing Curzon at their home; they score goals, create chances and are a very good footballing team.

“We have to make sure we don't get carried away; there is still room for improvement.

“We are delighted with the start of the season, but still want to get better and better.”

Town's Manager will have no fresh injury concerns ahead of the weekend, while Jack Emmett is expected to recover in time after missing Monday night's FA Cup Replay at Bradford Park Avenue.

Curzon have embraced the spirit of Non-League Day and given out over 5000 free tickets to the local community, ensuring Saturday will be a fantastic atmosphere.
