Harrogate Town 1 Bradford Park Avenue 1

24 October 2017

Harrogate Town were left feeling frustrated on Tuesday night after failing to beat Bradford Park Avenue at The CNG Stadium for a second time this season.

Despite an early Joe Leesley penalty miss, Jack Emmett's goal saw Town take a 1-0 lead into half time.

Avenue pegged the hosts back five minutes after the restart though as Adam Boyes headed in Nicky Clee's cross.

Town poured men forward desperate for a win, but it was Bradford who could have snatched all three points at the death if not for the returning Ryan Fallowfield's last ditch tackle.

Simon Weaver had recalled Fallowfield and Josh Falkingham to his starting line-up after the pair had missed Saturday's draw with Leamington through injury and suspension respectively.

After just three minutes of action Liam Agnew and Andrew Nelson combined with the latter being brought down to the ground by Ryan Toulson.

Referee Dean Watson quickly pointed to the spot, but Joe Leesley's spot kick struck the upright before Ed Hall claimed the rebound.

Fallowfield was straight into the thick of the action, clearing off the line in the opening quarter of an hour, moments before Terry Kennedy twice had headers hooked away from goal at the other end.

Town were piling on the pressure with a series of corners, but it was from a flowing attacking move that the hosts went ahead with Emmett's low finish following good work from Liam Agnew.

The lead nearly vanished a minute later, but James Belshaw did well to deny Oli Johnson at the near post.

Town's stopper was needed again after 41 minutes to keep out Mark Ross' thunderous long range shot, though there was nothing he could do about Jamie Spencer's equally ferocious long range effort that clattered the woodwork before bouncing clear.

Five minutes after half time BPA levelled the scores when former Town winger Nicky Clee's right wing cross was headed home by Boyes.

Now level, the visitors looked compact and difficult to break down with only Andrew Nelson's low cross on the counter attack looking like troubling Avenue, though no one could convert the delivery.

Weaver introduced Jordan Thewlis with just under 20 minutes to go, and the striker almost set up what would likely be the winner; teeing up strike partner Nelson who saw his low shot blocked.

Thewlis then had a chance himself to put his side ahead, but couldn't keep Emmett's cross under the bar with nine minutes of time remaining.

Avenue went mightily close to snatching all three points in stoppage time as Boyes ran through on goal following a quick counter attack, but Fallowfield recovered in time to block and ensure the score remained level.
