On Sunday 15th October, Ossett Town Women were the visitors to the CNG Stadium for County Cup 1st round action on a glorious day for football.
After the disappointment of going out of the WRCC early last season, Town were determined to get through to the second round in this year's competition.
The first 15 minutes of the game were tight with both teams feeling their way into the game, but that all changed on 16 minutes when forward Sophie Tinson raced on to a through ball to coolly round the goalkeeper and slot into an empty net.
A brace from Caz Hulme before the half hour mark seemed to put the game beyond Ossett, however, they came back strongly with a goal of high quality following a Town mistake in midfield.
The final action of the first half saw Hannah Bowe pick up a loose ball and dispatch a first-time finish into the top corner to see Town into the break leading 4-1.
The second half started with Town on the front foot as Tinson completed her hat-trick before the hour mark with two more clinical finishes.
Katie Rowland then got in on the act with a late run at the back post to finish off a pinpoint cross from the right wing.
Further goals from substitute Hannah Stephenson and midfielder Sue Elrington sandwiched another goal for the visitors.
Player of the match Tinson scored another three in the final half hour of the game to complete her double hattrick, saving her best goal till the last as she timed her run to perfection, beat the Ossett off side trap and found the top corner.
Town will now take on WPL Premier opponents Guiseley Vixens in the next round at the CNG Stadium on Sunday 19th November – this will be the highest ranked team Harrogate Town Ladies have played in their short history and will represent a challenge that we all look forward too.
