Leamington Preview

18 October 2017

Harrogate Town return to National League North action on Saturday afternoon as newly-promoted Leamington visit The CNG Stadium.

Paul Holleran's side earned promotion via the Southern Premier League play-offs and currently sit 18th; four points clear of the relegation zone.

Town, meanwhile, lead the division by three points and on Saturday come up against a side who only the National League North's bottom three teams have conceded more than.

Despite their early defensive struggles, The Brakes go into the weekend unbeaten in their last five league games and having taken seven points from their last three matches against Bradford Park Avenue, Salford and York.

Two late goals last weekend to claim a point against The Minstermen is proof of just how resilient Holleran's side are, and made it just one defeat in eight in all competitions.

The Brakes' Manager, now in his ninth season at the club, has ensured his side are very tough to beat on the road, with just two of his side's seven league trips ending in defeat.

Despite last weekend's surprise FA Cup defeat, Town remain in good form having scored 37 in 13 games in the league this season, and losing just one of their last 15 National League North fixtures.

Both previous meetings between the sides at The CNG Stadium have ended in 1-1 draws, and though Town have twice won at Leamington, Simon Weaver knows the match will be a tight contest.

He said: “Leamington are a tough proposition and under Paul Holleran will set up defensively sound with threats from wide areas and up top.

“Getting the mentality right is key and with this in mind patience will play a part in certain games, on and off the pitch.”
