Harrogate Town U21's moved level on points with league leaders Tadcaster Albion on Thursday night with a 5-2 win at Ossett Albion.
Andy Higgins opened the scoring after 21 minutes when the defender climbed highest to head Morgan Smith's dangerous corner delivery into the bottom corner.
Six minutes before the break Town doubled their lead through Prince Attokarah who, after good work down the left hand side by Charlie Baird and a cut back from Smith, took a touch and coolly finished.
The Unicorns fielded a strong line-up with three over age players adding strength in important positions and pulled a goal back five minutes after the restart from a corner.
Town's two goal advantage was restored on the hour mark though as Sam Barker drove through the middle of the park and played a well-timed through ball into the path of Baird to finish under pressure.
The pick of the evening's goals came in the 73rd minute when Henry Rollinson's free kick found Smith on the left who was able to cross towards Higgins to execute a diving header from the penalty spot, and claim his second of the afternoon.
Albion did manage to make it 4-2 deep into the second half, but it was Baird who rounded off the scoring with his second of the night, a fantastic solo effort that saw the attacker beat his marker and finish from the edge of the box.
Manager Josh Falkingham said: “It was an excellent performance, there were some outstanding individual performances in there but most importantly as a team across the 90 minutes we played really well.
"I think it was our best performance so far; going forward we caused them a lot of problems, but of course there is still room for improvement in that the two goals we conceded could have been dealt with better.”
Falkingham's side face a tough test on Monday night as Hull City send their U23's to The CNG Stadium.
Supporters can come and watch Falkingham's side, and maybe a few first team players, for just £2, while the 1919 Venue will be open.
