Salford City Preview

4 September 2017

Harrogate Town welcome title favourites Salford City to The CNG Stadium on Tuesday night looking to land an early blow in the title race.

The Ammies currently sit fourth in The National League North, the same position they finished last season, and are just three points behind Town at the top.

Like Town, the class of '92 owned club went full time this Summer in the hope of securing a third promotion in four seasons.

Bernard Morley and Anthony Johnson have been busy over the Summer adding plenty of quality to their squad after losing out to eventually promoted Halifax in last season's play-offs.

Tuesday night's opponents have not lost since the opening day of the season when rivals Darlington recorded a surprise 2-0 win at Moor Lane, and warmed up for Tuesday night's clash with a 1-1 draw at Curzon Ashton on Saturday.

Not including the play-offs, the loss to Darlington was the only defeat in Salford's last 11 league games, a run helped by a defence only Brackley have conceded less goals than.

Town meanwhile are unbeaten in their last ten league games and have yet to lose to The Ammies, despite meeting four times last season.

Both league meetings ended all square with the most recent encounter producing a classic as Simon Ainge's ten-minute hat-trick of penalties saw Town come from 3-1 down to earn a point at The CNG Stadium.

Simon Weaver's sole win over Salford came in an FA Trophy Replay last December as Joe Leesley's opener paved the way for a 3-0 win at Moor Lane.

Town will again be without injured quartet Ainge, Dominic Knowles, Lloyd Kerry and Louie Swain, though Noel Burdett will be pushing for his first Town appearance after signing on loan from Scunthorpe.
