Boston 3 Town 0

17 April 2018

Harrogate Town suffered a first defeat in six away matches and slipped to six points behind the league leaders after a 3-0 defeat at York Street.

After Town squandered an early penalty, two goals in seven minutes through Jake Beesley and Reece Thompson gave Simon Weaver's side a mountain to climb.

Despite Town doing all they could to stage a comeback, Boston struck in the 84th minute on the counter attack through Kabongo Tshimanga to seal a bitterly dissapointing night for Town.

With Jake Wright back fit and available for selection, Simon Weaver opted to put his straight back in the starting lineup in place of Dom Knowles.

Town were given the chance to take the lead from the penalty spot in the fourth minute as Joe Leesley got to Ryan Fallowfield's pass before George Willis, who brought down the winger.

Leesley stepped up to take, but Willis saved with his feet, while a recovering defender cleared before he could convert the rebound.

Town went close again ten minutes later as excellent hold up play from Mark Beck released Wright through on goal, though the striker's near post finish struck the base of the post and bounced clear.

Boston were also looking a threat going forward, and almost took the lead when Ashley Hemmings' corner was taken by the wind and looked to be heading in at the far post, though Leesley was able to head off the line.

The hosts did manage to edge ahead after 29 minutes through a set piece as Hemmings' corner was met at the near post and headed into the back of the net by Beesley.

Seven minutes later it was two as James Belshaw denied Beesley a second from close range, but couldn't stop Thompson's follow up from nestling into the side netting.

It was almost three just after the restart as Ryan Qualter got on the end of Hemmings' corner at the back post, but couldn't get the right contact to turn the ball in.

Town could have been awarded a second penalty in the 58th minute as Emmett played Wright through on goal with the striker then seemingly brought down, though the referee saw the incident the other way and booked Wright for simulation.

Town were trying desperately to get back into the game, but were met by a Boston side determined to see out the victory and a goalkeeper who seemed to claim everything that came his way.

With ten minutes to play, George Thomson almost pulled a goal back from a free kick 25 yards out, but shot just over the bar.

Town continued to pile men forward, allowing substitute Tshimanga to strike on the counter attack and in doing so end any hopes of a Harrogate comeback.
