Harrogate Town's pursuit of the National League North title came to end an end on Saturday afternoon following a 2-0 defeat at Bradford Park Avenue.
Adam Boyes put Avenue ahead in the first half with an arching header, before former Town loanee Frank Mulhern doubled the advantage in the second half on the break.Jake Wright struck in the 84th minute to give the travelling Town fans slight hope of a comeback, but four minutes later Boyes claimed his second of the afternoon to end any hope of a grandstand finish.
Simon Weaver made three changes from Tuesday night's trip to Boston as Louie Swain, Dom Knowles and Liam Agnew replaced Ben Parker, Mark Beck and Joe Leesley.
After a fairly uneventful opening quarter of an hour, George Thomson forced the first save of the afternoon as Steven Drench pushed away the midfielder's long range strike.
The first big chance fell the way of Avenue after Oli Johnson's pull back found Adam Boyes, though Warren Burrell cleared from the line and Johnson couldn't convert the rebound from a tight angle.
The hosts took the lead after 25 minutes when Adam Boyes met an outswinging corner and managed to arch is header up and over James Belshaw into the far corner.
Jake Wright almost fired an equaliser in the 37th minute after receiving the ball from Thomson, but his low shot was kept out by Drench.
Four minutes after the restart Burrell tried his luck, but his left footed volley took a deflection on its way behind for a corner.
It was Avenue who struck next though as Town had commited men forward for a free kick, Frank Mulhern found himself unmarked at the back post on the break where the former Harrogate loanee was able to find the bottom right corner.
Wright had the chance to halve the deficit in the 71st minute as he got on the end of Thomson's corner, but headed wide of the target.
Wright did manage to get his name on the scoresheet with six minutes to play as the striker was first to react when Drench parried Dom Knowles' finish.
Any hopes of a comeback were short lived though as four minutes later Oli Johnson evaded challenges and got a shot away, that Boyes was alert enough to pounce upon after Belshaw had saved.
