Aldershot 0 Town 2

18 August 2018

Harrogate Town claimed an impressive away win at Aldershot and extended their unbeaten start to life in The National League thanks to goals from Dom Knowles and George Thomson.

After a first half in which chances were few and far between, Dom Knowles broke the deadlock in the 53rd minute, stealing possession high up the pitch and firing into the bottom corner.

A second arrived four minutes later after good work from Liam Kitching and Joe Leesley down the left ended in what looked like George Thomson getting the final touch.

Simon Weaver named the same starting XI that claimed a first ever National League win on Tuesday night, with Jack Muldoon moving up front alongside Dom Knowles.

In the opposite dugout, Gary Waddock made two changes from his side's opening win of the season with Jake Cole and Jacob Berkeley-Agyepong returning.

The first chance of the afternoon fell Town's way, after good play to win possession by Jack Muldoon, Joe Leesley's cross was cleared only as far as George Thomson, but Jake Cole denied the winger's first time shot with his feet.

Aldershot responded with a chance of their own after a right sided corner travelled all the way to the far post where an unmarked Dan Holman couldn't hit the target.

Those were the two best chances of the opening 45 minutes, with Town repeatedly winning possession high up the pitch, but not quite being able to craft an opportunity and fashion an opening goal.

Town almost took the lead in the 53rd minute in spectacular fashion as Callum Howe carried the ball forward from centre back before unleashing a fierce strike towards goal that Cole did well to tip over the bar.

Weaver's side found the breakthrough six minutes later as Knowles stole possession from Lewis Kinsella before driving into the area, cutting back on his right foot and firing across goal into the far corner.

Four minutes later it was two as Joe Leesley's cross ended up in the back of the net with Thomson and Kinsella combining to divert the ball goalwards.

Now in a commanding postion, Weaver introduced Aaron Williams, Lloyd Kerry and Liam Agnew who were able to provide fresh legs and ensure Town saw out an impressive result away from home, with Williams almost adding to the score in stoppage time, but being denied by a good save and follow up block.
