Maidenhead 1 Town 2

1 December 2018

Kelvin Langmead provided another late goal that meant Town picked up all three points on their first trip to face Maidenhead at York Road.

Callum Howe's sixth of the season had given Town the lead, though Adrian Clifton struck before the break to keep the sides locked level.

With 13 minutes remaining, Joe Leesley's corner dropped to Langmead, who finished first time on the turn to ensure Town returned home with a win.

Simon Weaver made two changes from Tuesday night's trip to Salford with Leesley returning from suspension to take the place of Jordan Thewlis and Ryan Fallowfield replacing the injured Liam Kitching.

After an opening ten minutes with both sides trying their luck from range, Town opened the scoring in the 11th minute, making a series of early corners count.

George Thomson's delivery was met at the back post by Mark Beck, who powered the ball back across goal and into the path of Howe to head home from close range.

It was almost two nine minutes later as Warren Burrell forced a defensive error high up the pitch, allowing Muldoon to collect possession and shoot, only to strike the base of the post.

Town's top scorer was denied again three minutes later, this time by a Maidenhead defender, who cleared Muldoon's effort from the line after a goal mouth scramble.

With a second goal for Town looking imminent, Maidenhead were handed a lifeline as James Belshaw was penalised for picking up a back pass, giving the hosts an indirect free kick inside the Town area.

Reece Cole struck the ball towards goal after it had been laid off, with Clifton applying the final touch from close range, eventually being awarded the goal after deliberation between the Referee and his Linesman.

Ayo Obileye had a great chance to give his side the lead soon after as James Comley delivered a teasing cross into the six yard box, but the midfielder couldn't work Belshaw.

Town had a great chance to regain the lead one minute before the interval, but couldn't take the opportunity.

Thomson and Fallowfield combined down the right with the latter picking out Muldoon with a low cross, Pantney parried the effort into the path of Jack Emmett, who couldn't keep his finish under the bar.

Five minutes into the second half, Howe almost claimed his second, grazing the bar with a powerful header from Thomson's corner.

Captain Josh Falkingham went close a minute later, almost finding the top corner with a first time strike following Beck's knock down.

Weaver introduced Dom Knowles and Michael Woods midway into the second half in an attempt to sway his side's fortunes, though it was the hosts who would go close next as Burrell produced a good block to deny Obileye.

With 13 minutes to play, Town regained the lead, again through a set piece and again through a central defender's finish.

Leesley's corner dropped to Langmead, who finished excellently on the turn.

Town almost wrapped up the points in the 83rd minute as Leesley tied his marker up in knots, before seeing his low cross deflect onto the inside of the post, though a third goal was not needed as Town collected all three points.
