Solihull Moors 2 Town 0

4 December 2018

Town couldn't breach Solihull's solid defensive record on Tuesday night as they were dealt a 2-0 defeat at Damson Park.

Alex Gudger's first half header made it an uphill task for Town, who probed for an equaliser, but were undone by Adi Yussuf's 85th minute penalty that sent Simon Weaver's side to a third away defeat of the season.

Weaver had named the same starting line-up that took three points from Maidenhead on Saturday, with Liam Kitching still sidelined through injury.

Town started well, probing the Solihull backline, but had to wait until the 15th minute for a shot on goal as Ryan Boot kept our George Thomson's free kick.

The hosts had the ball in the back of the net midway through the half as Danny Wright managed to divert the ball in off the upright following a free kick delivery from the left, but the striker was in an offside position.

Wright struck the woodwork a few minutes later, hitting Jamie Reckord's low cross first time onto the post and away.

Town responded with a chance of their own as Joe Leesley delivered a fantastic cross from the right wing towards Kelvin Langmead, who was denied a second goal in two games by Boot's point blank save.

Solihull created a similar opportunity nine minutes before the break, finding an unmarked Gudger from a corner where the defender was able to head home the opening goal from six yards out.

The last action of the half saw Solihull again threaten the Town goal as Reckord sent a deep cross to the back post that was headed back into the mix, but Langmead was there to head clear.

Town started the second 45 in positive fashion with Thomson forcing a save from Boot and Josh Falkingham almost finding the corner from just outside the area.

With Solihull standing firm, Weaver introduced Michael Woods and Dom Knowles in an effort to breach the defence, though Leesley couldn't quite do that with a free kick minutes after the change, that skimmed the post.

Moors were looking to strike on the counter attack and almost did so with 11 minutes to go through substitute Adi Yussuf who struck the post after beating James Belshaw.

With five minutes to play, Solihull were awarded a controversial penalty as Jamey Osborne went down inside the box, allowing Yussuf to step up and score from 12 yards to all but seal the win.
