LADIES | Town 8 Sheffield Wednesday 0

19 February 2018

Harrogate Town Ladies edged closer to a second consecutive league title on Sunday afternoon with a dominant 8-0 win over Sheffield Wednesday Ladies.

Town wasted no time in taking the lead as Katie Rowland tapped in at the back post, but it was Lindsey

Whitton's second goal that got the crowd on their feet as the Town player volleyed home in style from the edge of the box.

Rachel White claimed a third goal before half time, stealing possession from a Wednesday defender and poking past the goalkeeper to put her side in a fantastic position at the break.

Sophie Tinson was first to get in on the act after the restart, finishing in typically clinical fashion from just inside the box.

Whitton's earlier goal was then matched, if not bettered, by Jade Pennock's first of the afternoon and Town's fifth, as the midfielder powered home from the edge of the box.

Katie Rowland then claimed her second of the match with a perfectly executed chip over the opposing goalkeeper, before a quickfire Hannah Stephenson brace, the first of which came after converting Grace Adams' saved penalty, finished the scoring and sealed an emphatic win for Jon Maloney's side.
