Town's Under 21 team extended their lead at the top of the West Riding County FA U21 League to 11 points last night with a 4-1 win over Malt Shovel at The CNG Stadium.
Josh Falkingham handed a place in the starting line-up to Under 17 pair Carl Robinson and Sam Clark, neither of which looked out of place despite playing above their age group. The Shovel looked good in the early exchanges, but Town soon took the lead when Charlie Baird muscled through the visiting back line and finished well to continue his recent run of goalscoring form.
After the opening goal cam a flurry of attacking football from the hosts that resulted in the three points being wrapped up early on.
Clark was next in on the action after being released down the left wing, skilfully beating his man and firing into the near top corner.
It was soon three as a mistake in the Malt Shovel goal allowed Heatley to get to the byline and pull back across goal where Sam Barker was waiting for an easy tap in.
The fourth goal of Town's flurry arrived just before half time as Baird's looping finish bounced back off the cross bar to the feet of Heatley, who powered home.
With the three points already in the bag, Town took their foot off the gas, while Malt Shovel remained resilient and got their rewards with a well taken finish in the second half.
Next up for Falkingham and Josh Walsh's side is a trip to local rivals Knaresborough Town next Monday night.
