Nuneaton Town Preview

8 January 2018

A win at Nuneaton on Tuesday night would see Town return to the top of The National League North for the first time since October.

After finishing just one place below Town last season, tomorrow's hosts find themselves in a relegation battle and are currently 21st, though a win would take them out of the bottom three.

Dino Maamria's side suffered a 2-0 home reverse at the hands of Brackley at the weekend, but had previously shown signs on home soil that they could stay in the division.

Seventeen of Nuneaton's 23 league points have come at Liberty Way, while only four teams have a better defensive record at their own ground.

Maamria replaced Darlington bound Tommy Wright and will be hoping top scorer Ashley Chambers can add to his 14 league goals for his side with only two league wins in their last ten attempts.

Over the last five fixtures the Warwickshire side four defeats, each of which they failed to register a goal; the opposite of Town who have four wins and four clean sheets in their last five outings.

No team has won more away matches in the National League North this season than Simon Weaver's men, though no win at Liberty Way since 2007 shows how tough a trip it can be.

The last three meetings between the sides have all gone the way of the home team, including earlier this season when goals from George Thomson, Jordan Thewlis (2) and Simon Ainge got Town's season off to a winning start.

Warren Burrell and Simon Ainge remain suspended for the trip, though Terry Kennedy served his one match suspension at Chorley and is available for selection.
