Town 3 Farsley Celtic 2

13 July 2018

Preparations for the new season continued for Town as they defeated Farsley Celtic 3-2 in Town's second game of preseason at The CNG Stadium.

First half goals from Jack Muldoon and Dom Knowles followed by a second half penalty from Jordan Thewlis ensured Town secure two wins out of two to start preseason.

Town started the game off perfectly, finding the back of the net in the 3rd minute. A lovely low Fallowfield cross found Muldoon at the back post to open the scoring for the evening.

Town played some good stuff in the opening stages of the game. With Fallowfield looking a real threat with some good crosses into the box.

A few Chances fell for the in form Knowles in the first half, but he struggled to find the back of the goal, including a very unlucky goalmouth scramble.

Farsley Celtic looked like a strong, well organised side despite conceding in the early stages, really testing Town's passing and movement but failed in the early stages of the game to create any concrete chances.

Farsley's first big chance of the game came in the 24th minute as Baldwin whipped in a good cross for Ex Town man Danny Ellis, who headed just over the bar.

Chances for both teams were limited as the half went on. Town continued to attack the Farsley goal, leading to a few missed chances for Town and several good saves from the Farsley keeper Ed Hall.

As the first half went on, Liam Agnew was unable to convert a good chance for Town. Thanks to good work from his teammates, he found himself in space but dragged it just wide.

Agnew and Town would go on to rue the missed opportunity as, in the 38th minute, Farsley's Ryan Watson produced a lovely free kick from 30 yards out to level things up.

It wasn't level for long though, Knowles turned up with a quick reply in the 40th minute. Knowles found the back of the net after getting onto Muldon's low cross into the box, much to the dismay of the Farsley Celtic defenders who seemed to be caught out and called for offside.

After the break manager Simon Weaver opted to bring out a fresh side, making eight changes, while Farlsey made three changes after the break.

Despite a quiet opening to the half, Town were still looking lively. Jack Emmett and Casey Stewart linked up nicely.

The first big chance of the second half fell to town in the 55th minute, with Jordan Thewlis and then Josh Falkingham both having efforts saved by the keeper.

It didn't take long for the lively Thewlis to get on the score sheet. Town were awarded a penalty in the 56th minute after a foul on Thewlis, he then stepped up and slotted the penalty to the left of the Farsley keeper.

As the game began to quieten down Farsley managed to pull one back in the 68th minute. After a goal mouth scramble between both the Town and Celtic Players, the ball found its way over the line.

After the Farsley goal, chances were limited for both sides, giving Town two wins out of two so far at the start of what looks set to be an important pre-season.
