U21s | Town 4-0 Hemsworth

10 May 2018

Harrogate Town U21s moved nine points clear at the top of the WRCFA Floodlit League on Thursday night with a convincing victory over fourth placed Hemsworth Miners Welfare.

Sam Barker's well taken goal five minutes before the interval seperated the sides at the break after a fairly even first 45 minutes.

Jake Heatley struck from close range quicly after the restart to put Town in an even better position, before goals from Charlie Baird and Sam Phoenix wrapped up the three points and capped an impressive performance.

Both sides had chances inside the opening three minutes as first a long free kick resulted in Liam Powell denying Hemsworth's frontman when one on one, then Prince Attakorah's dangerous low ball across the face of goal was almost turned in.

The visitors had another chance to take the lead on the quarter of an hour mark when a corner was met by a header six yards out, but Powell saved again.

Four minutes later Jake Heatley should have put his side ahead after Attakorah's right wing cross found his fellow winger at the back post, but the end header was too high to trouble the 'keeper.

With five minutes remaining of the half, Sam Clark's pull back found Sam Barker on the edge of the area who was able to guide his first time finish in off the post.

Falkingham's side doubed their advantage three minutes after the restart as Charlie Baird's cross was spilled into the path of Heatley, who made no mistake from close range.

Barker and Clark both had chances to extend their sides lead in the action that followed, though both's finishes were wide of the mark.

The same could not be said for Baird finish in the 63rd minute though as the striker raced in behind the Hemsworth defence and coolly slotted home with the outside of the boot.

A fourth Town goal almost arrived on the counter attack ten minutes from time as substitutes Sam Phoenix and Owen Marwood combined to tee up Barker, but the midfielder's finsih was parried away.

There was still time for a fourth and final goal of the evening as Aaron Brettell's low strike fell to Phoenix just inside the box from where he was able to fire in off the bar and round off an impressive display.
