Dover Athletic Preview

9 October 2018

On Non-League Day 2018, Town will be looking to build on back to back away wins as Dover Athletic are welcomed to the CNG Stadium.

The two wins on the road, against Ebbsfleet United and Boreham Wood, see Simon Weaver's side sit third in the National League table.

Callum Howe grabbed his fifth goal of the season at the weekend with Aaron Williams bagging his third and Joe Leesley grabbing yet another assist.

A return to the starting line-up from injury for Jack Emmett will be a big plus point for Weaver's team, while Jordan Thewlis returned to the bench having recovered from an injury suffered in preseason.

Meanwhile, James Belshaw picked up his 7th clean sheet of the season, an impressive feat after just 15 games.

Opponents Dover sit in the bottom four, having finished in the top eight in their last four seasons in this league.

Last week they relieved manager Chris Kinnear of his duties, ending his second spell in charge and have quickly moved to find his replacement, bringing in Eastleigh Boss Andy Hessenthaler.

Hessenthaler has already visited The CNG stadium this season, though will be hoping for a different outcome than the 4-0 defeat suffered in early September.

Having finished strongly in the last few years, The Whites' start to this season will be a different experience for fans who have just one win in 15 games; against Havant & Waterlooville in August.

Saturday's opponents are winless in the ten subsequent games, managing back-to-back points just once with draws against Ebbsfleet United and away at Chesterfield.

Despite a tough start to the season, Moussa Diarra has been impressive for The Whites having arrived in the summer after spending the last two seasons at Barrow.

At 6'5, the French centre back is an imposing figure at the back and has played in non-league for a number of years since arriving from across the Channel in 2011.
