Wrexham FA Cup Preview

16 October 2018

It's a return to the Emirates FA Cup for Town this weekend as The CNG Stadium hosts Wrexham in The Fourth Qualifying Round.

Simon Weaver's men will be looking to take their impressive league form into cup competition, having lost just one of their opening 16 games.

The fixture is a repeat of September's league clash when Town came up against a very well organised Wrexham side and played out a 0-0 draw.

Highlights

Weaver will have the return of Jordan Thewlis and Ryan Fallowfield to mull over with the two playing their part in Monday's clash with Huddersfield U23s.

Continued impressive performances from the defensive duo of Kelvin Langmead and Callum Howe will also give the gaffer confidence that his side can come away with another clean sheet just like in the previous fixture.

Elsewhere, Aaron Williams will be looking to add to his goal tally for the season having found the net three times in his last three games.

Harrogate and Wrexham have faced off previously in cup competition as recently as last November, and now face off in the oldest and arguably the most famous national football competition in the world.

The two sides met in the FA Trophy just as they were both flying high in their respected leagues with Town pulling off an impressive 2-0 win at The Racecourse Ground thanks to a brace from Mark Beck.

Wrexham currently sit second in The National League and have won their last three games on the bounce, with last weekend's fixture ending in a 2-1 victory over Dagenham and Redbridge.

On hearing the draw, Wrexham Manager Sam Rickets told his teams official club website: “My initial thoughts are it could have been a little bit kinder to us," but continued in saying he'd be looking forward to the fixture and potentially reaching the next round for the first time since the 2014/15 season.

Town meanwhile have not made it into the first round since 2012/13 in what was Weaver's side's best ever FA Cup run, though Town have never previously entered at the 4th Qualifying Round.
