Wrexham AFC Preview

24 September 2018

Town will be looking to bounce back from their first defeat since March on Tuesday night as Wrexham visit The
CNG Stadium.

Despite Town's first defeat of the season and first defeat at National League level, Simon Weaver will be pleased with the return of Captain Josh Falkingham to the starting line-up, while Mark Beck started his first game since the Promotion Final win against Brackley Town.

The Dragons were founded in 1864, just one year after the Football Association first met and the Laws of the Game were first written, Wrexham is the third oldest professional football club in the world.

Tuesday night's opponents arrive at The CNG Stadium also looking to bounce back, following a 3-0 defeat to Sutton United at the weekend.

Managed by the former Hull City, Bolton and Wales defender Sam Ricketts, despite a few bumps Wrexham are looking like a side rejuvenated after missing out on the play-offs altogether last season.

Despite their decent start to the season, which has consisted of seven wins, three draws and just two defeats, Ricketts recently warned his players that there is still room for improvement.

“We have managed to take two points a game on average, certainly before a ball was kicked you would have taken that,” he said.

“But I feel we need to get better. We're doing well, it's been a brilliant start, but we have improvement to make and I need to stress that.”

Harrogate and Wrexham have only met once in the past, as recently as last December when the two sides met in the FA Trophy, just as they were both flying high in there respected leagues.

On the day it was Harrogate who pulled off an impressive result, a 2-0 win away from home thanks to a brace from Beck.

The Town defence will have to be wary of Dragons' in form marksmen Mike Fondop-Talem who's already netted five times this season.

Wrexham will be without ever present midfielder Luke Summerfield, who had played every game so far this season after he picked up a red card against Sutton United.
