AFC Fylde Preview

28 April 2019

With Town finishing an impressive first season at National League level in sixth place and as the league's top scorers, a Wednesday night trip to AFC Fylde in the Play-Off Eliminator awaits.

Having already confirmed a Play-Off place with a 2-0 win over Gateshead on Easter Monday,  Simon Weaver made eight changes for the final game of the season, including first starts of the season for Toby Lees and Joe Cracknell.

Town fell to a 2-1 defeat at The Racecourse Ground despite an early Mark Beck goal, confirming AFC Fylde as their Play-Off opponents this coming Wednesday.

The Coasters also suffered a defeat to end the season with Halifax running out 2-0 winners at Mill Farm, with Dave Challinor making nine changes for the clash.

Despite the defeat, Fylde have only lost two fixtures in their last eight, with the other defeat a 2-1 reverse away to Boreham Wood earlier in April.

Just like Town, Fylde have been in around the top six all season with just one place and seven points separating the sides in the final standings.

At Mill Farm, having picked up 49 out of a possible 69 points, AFC Fylde have the second-best home record in the league behind fellow promotion chasers Wrexham.

The Coasters sit fifth in the goal scoring charts, with Town leading the way having found the back of the net 78 times in their maiden season at National League level.

Challinor's side have been involved in the Play-Offs in six of their Manager's eight seasons at the club, with the only two exemptions coming through title wins.

The Coasters went all the way on one of those occasions; in 2013/14 when Worksop and Ashton were beaten to clinch promotion to the National League North.

Among the Lancashire sides arsenal is National League 2018/19 top goal scorer Danny Rowe; who has found the back of the net 27 times in the league this time around.

The Town faithful will be familiar with Rowe, with the 29-year-old striker finding the back of the net twice as the two sides faced off last December, with AFC Fylde leaving North Yorkshire 2-1 winners.

Highlights

Town's top scorer this season meanwhile is a familiar name to Fylde fans, with Jack Muldoon making the move from Mill Farm in the Summer and netting 17 times in his first season at The CNG Stadium.

Altogether the sides have played each other ten times with five AFC Fylde wins and four draws, the only Harrogate Town win taking place on the first meeting between the clubs.

Included in those ten meetings is a two-legged Play-Off tie at the end of the 2015/16 season which Fylde edged 2-1, though eventually lost out on promotion to The National League to North Ferriby.
