Boreham Wood Preview

10 April 2019

Harrogate Town welcome Boreham Wood to The CNG Stadium on Saturday for their penultimate home game of the club's debut season in The National League.

Simon Weaver's side picked up all three points against Havant and Waterlooville last weekend, courtesy of a late George Thomson goal, his ninth of the season, after Michael Woods had pulled his side back to level terms.

Town had made three changes from the previous Saturday as Liam Kitching, Thomson and Woods took the places of Ryan Fallowfield, Mark Beck and Liam Agnew, though the Sunderland born midfielder was introduced midway through the first half at Westleigh Park.

It has been a season of contrasts for last season's Promotion Final Runners-up who at one point sat seventh in The National League, but now find themselves just nine points from the relegation zone with three games to go after winning only one of their last eight games.

Saturday's opponents secured their place in the Herts Senior Cup Semi Final on Tuesday night and know that a point or more at The CNG Stadium, as well as other results going their way, could result in safety being achieved this weekend.

Having lost just eight away league matches all season, Boreham Wood have proved difficult to beat on the road and claimed an impressive 2-1 win over Barrow recently, a result that was almost followed up by a point against Sutton, if not for a 95th goal conceded that left them empty handed.

The Wood are currently managed by former AFC Wimbledon and Swindon man Luke Garrard, having taken charge in 2015 when he was the youngest manager in the top five divisions of English football at just 30 years old.

Before taking up his role in the dugout, Garrard played 140 times for Boreham Wood in a spell beginning in 2010.

They have lost the goals of Bruno Andrade, Morgan Ferrier and Angelo Balanta this season, with Danish striker Justin Shaibu, on loan from Brentford carrying much of the responsibility in a side that has found the back of net 45 times so far.

Town and Boreham Wood have only faced off once previously in a competitive fixture with Harrogate claiming all three points on the road earlier in the season, courtesy of goals from Aaron Williams, George Thomson and Jack Emmett.
