Gateshead Preview

19 April 2019

In the last home game of Town's maiden National League campaign, Simon Weaver's side welcome Gateshead to The CNG Stadium with both sides still harbouring hopes of a Play-Off place.

Despite falling to defeat on Good Friday at Leyton Orient, Town still sit in sixth place in the table, with a four-point gap to eighth place Ebbsfleet.

Gateshead meanwhile moved up to ninth in the National League on Friday with a 1-0 win over Chesterfield.

Before Friday, Gateshead hadn't picked up a victory since the start of March, though Ben Clark's side can still qualify for the post season with wins in their final two matches, and results on the final day going their way.

Although The Heed have lost their last four on the road, only four teams have picked up more wins away from home this season than Monday's opponents.

The two sides last met back in September, when goals from Dom Knowles, Jack Muldoon and Aaron Williams sent Town to the top of the table at The Gateshead International Stadium.

Highlights

Town and Gateshead have met six times previously, with Town winning on four occasions and losing just once.

Gateshead are currently managed by Ben Clark following the departure of Steve Watson to York City, who managed the side the last time they faced Town.

Clark arrived at the Gateshead International Stadium originally as a player following his release from Hartlepool United in 2010 and went on to make more than 280 appearances for the club.

In November 2015, Clark was named co-caretaker Manager of Gateshead alongside Micky Cummins before being promoted from reserve team Manager to first team Manager in January this year, naming former Newcastle player Mike Williamson as his assistant.

In terms of personnel, striker Scott Rigg has found the back of the net ten times this campaign while Williamson and Rob Tinkler have helped a solid defensive record at the other end.

Tickets are available to purchase online through the below link, or on the gate up until 3pm on Monday.
