Chorley 0 Town 2

28 December 2019

Goals from Jack Muldoon and Jon Stead made it six points in three days for Town who ended 2019 with a 2-0 win at Chorley.

Muldoon's tenth of the season was the highlight of the first half as Town's top scorer raced in behind and picked out the bottom corner.

With Chorley needing to push forward to find a way back into the game, Town were able to create more chances, Stead taking his by rounding Matt Urwin in the 67th minute to seal a sixth straight win against Chorley.

Simon Weaver named the same squad that put four past Hartlepool just two days ago, with Muldoon partnering Stead in attack.

Both sides were limited to long range efforts in the opening exchanges, before Muldoon was first to test Urwin in the Chorley goal, glancing Josh Falkingham's free kick into his arms after 24 minutes.

Three minutes later and Town were ahead as Urwin opted not to come and meet Connor Hall's ball over the top of the defence, inviting Muldoon to latch onto the loose ball and find the bottom left corner.

The closest the hosts came to a first half equaliser was when Marcus Carver's powerful strike was kept out by James Belshaw as Town took a one goal lead into half time.

The second half started in a scrappy fashion, with Urwin's save from Will Smith's header after another accurate Falkingham free kick delivery the first bit of quality just before the hour mark.

Town created another chance in the 65th minute as Stead released Muldoon, but this time Urwin got the better of the dual, with Chorley managing to block Jack Diamond's follow up attempt.

Town's second goal arrived two minutes later though as Stead beat Urwin to the ball, managing to round the Chorley stopper and slot into the net.

It could have been three not long after as Stead missed the target at the near post, before Diamond's left footed finish was blocked by Urwin after a swift counter attack.

Substitute Ntumba Massanka almost made it an interesting finish with an 86th minute header, but Belshaw denied the striker with a diving save, maintaining Town's first clean sheet since October 26th.
