Sutton Preview

3 January 2019

Town face another tricky away match this weekend as Simon Weaver's side take on Sutton United at Gander Green Lane.

The fixture is a reverse of Town's first ever match at National League level and first ever meeting between the sides, when a stoppage time equaliser from the penalty spot cancelled out what had looked like a Kelvin Langmead 86th minute winner.

Late goals have continued to be a theme for Town, with four in the last four games going against Weaver's side and denying Town a win at Halifax to start the New Year.

Paul Doswell's side were also on their travels on New Years Day, suffering a first defeat in seven National League games in front of the BT Sport cameras at Bromley.

Sutton had won three on the bounce and lost just one from 11 to end 2017 on a high, though had gone eight matches without a win before taking nine points from a possible nine against Halifax, Bromley and Aldershot.

Saturday's opponents made it to the Play-Offs last season and are knocking on the door once again this time round, knowing a win against Town would lift them into the top seven.

Town meanwhile could move back into the top four with a first win in five matches, with Weaver's side not having gone five matches without a win in over 18 months.

Gander Green Lane has proven a tough place for visiting teams to go through, with Sutton suffering just one defeat in nine on their 3G Pitch.

Any fans travelling to by train should be aware there are no trains through West Sutton, the station next to the ground, due to engineering works.

Sutton Station, a 15-20 minute walk away from the ground, can still be accessed from Victoria or London Bridge.
