Solihull Moors Preview

29 July 2019

Town begin their 2019/20 National League campaign against Solihull Moors at The CNG Stadium on Saturday 3rd August, just eight days after Callum Howe switched the yellow and black of Town for the yellow and blue of Solihull.

After finishing as Runners-Up to Leyton Orient in 2018/19, Moors head into the new season as one of the favourites for promotion having invested wisely in their squad over the Summer.

As well as Howe, prolific striker Paul McCallum has joined from Eastleigh, while exciting full back Mitch Hancox can make an impact at both ends of the pitch.

Like Town, Solihull saw their promotion ambitions ended by AFC Fylde in the Play-Offs, though Tim Flowers will be aiming for the Football League in his second season in charge at Damson Park.

In the opposing home dugout, Simon Weaver will be starting his 11th season in charge at Town on the back of five wins from six in pre-season, scoring 17 goals, including four in Saturday's victory over Spennymoor.

Highlights

Town's Manager has plenty of selection headaches going into the first week, with new signings Jon Stead, Sam Jones, Brendan Kiernan, Scott Brown, Will Smith, George Smith and Connor Hall all fit and raring to go.

Solihull's pre-season has been similarly successful with wins over Leamington, Telford and Ilkeston followed up with draws against Burton Albion and Oxford United.

No team recorded more league wins last season than Flowers' side, who also had the best record away from home, despite defeat at The CNG Stadium in August.

Highlights

The last four meetings between Town and Solihull have all ended in home wins, with Solihull holding the overall advantage with 10 victories to Town's seven, while the sides have finished level in three meetings.
