Our U17 side faced a tough test against league leaders and undefeated Rothwell Town on Sunday morning at The CNG Stadium.
Town started well and opened the scoring in the fifth minute in remarkable fashion; Harry Lee played the ball into the path of Gabe Humphries whose back heel set up Joe Gosling, the attacker saw the keeper of his line and clipped it over him from 25 yards out.Town went two up when a Josh Wicks cross found Humphries unmarked in the box from where he was able to head the ball beyond the keeper, leaving him no chance.
Town let the two goal lead slip after 20 minutes, but were still creating a lot of chances; Gosling, Humphries and Danny Mutch all coming close but the Rothwell keeper pulling off three very good saves to keep the score level.
The young Harrogate side finally went back in front when Wicks found himself in space on the edge of the box to curl a great effort into the bottom corner.
Wicks doubled his tally for the day after a brilliant individual run was finished off with a tidy finish under the keeper, the last action of a goal filled first half.
Town started the second half like they did the first with a goal five minutes in, Lee's strong run down the left and pinpoint cross found Adam Kellett unmarked to tap in.
After another Rothwell goal from the penalty spot, Kellett turned provider when a run down the right and a cross to the back post found Lee to fire home a bullet header and restore Town's three goal lead.
Mutch was next to get himself on the score sheet with a low drive into the bottom corner from outside the box after Max Shuter found him unmarked on the edge of the area.
Towns eighth and final goal came when Dan Ingoldsby's cross was met with a glancing header from Humphries, capping off very good individual performances for both players.
Josh Walsh's side will be looking to follow up the impressive win next week with a tough trip to Hall Green United U18's.
