Town 2 Sutton 0

28 September 2019

George Thomson's first goal of the season, a penalty save from James Belshaw and late Jack Muldoon spot kick helped Town make it two wins on the bounce as they beat Sutton United 2-0.

After an impressive display midweek against Halifax, Simon Weaver named an unchanged side.

The game started at a fast pace with both teams pushing for a lead within the opening ten minutes.

Sutton had the first chance which fell for Craig Eastmond, he flicked on a cross from the right which Belshaw gladly watch sail past his near post.

Muldoon then found himself with an opportunity after he got on the end of a long ball forward, hitting first time across the keeper and narrowly missing the far post.

The visitors thought they had taken the lead in the 15th minute when centre back Jamie Collins tapped in from a dangerous free-kick. However, the linesman had raised his flag for offside.

After a quiet spell, Town broke the deadlock. Alex Bradley picked up the ball inside his own half to look up and see Thomson in acres of space down the right. Bradley played Thomson through and the winger coolly slotted home to make it 1-0 just after the half hour mark.

Town had the first chance of the second half which so nearly resulted in the lead being doubled.

Five minutes after the restart Muldoon found space down the right channel. He fired a low cross towards Kiernan who hit over from the edge of the six-yard box.

Sutton were then awarded a penalty in the 54th minute after Aaron Jarvis was brought down by George Smith.

Centre back Jamie Collins stepped up to take but he could not fire past Belshaw who got low to his left to push away the danger.

Chances we hard to come by after the penalty. Muldoon bared down on goal in the 76th minute but failed to trouble the keeper.

Then at the other end, Belshaw made an excellent save to stop Will Randall's free-kick nestling into the bottom corner.

Town were then awarded a penalty in the 91st minute after the keeper brought Muldoon down in the one on one.

Muldoon placed the ball down and scored to seal the win for Town.
