Goals from Josh Falkingham, Jack Diamond and Jack Muldoon saw Town cruise to a 3-0 win over Eastleigh on a wet and windy afternoon at the CNG Stadium.
The victory, the second over today's opponents this month following the FA Trophy win a fortnight ago, continued their impressive recent form and was enough to maintain the pressure on leaders Barrow at the top of the Vanarama National League table.Simon Weaver opted to keep faith with the same starting line-up from the abandoned game at Barnet in midweek, with Kian Harratt replacing Jack Emmett on the bench.
Town contended with the testing conditions the better of the two sides in the opening stages and almost went ahead in the sixth minute when both Muldoon and George Thomson saw close-range efforts thwarted amid a goalmouth scramble in the Eastleigh box.
They were rewarded after twenty minutes though when man of the match Falkingham timed his run to the edge of the box with perfection to slot home from Thomson's pull back for a deserved lead.
Tyrone Barnett's presence in the Eastleigh attack had the potential to unsettle the Town defence and his smart turn on the half hour mark fashioned an opportunity for himself but James Belshaw comfortably dealt with the danger in the Town goal.
It was the only real threat from the visitors during the opening forty-five minutes though and as the half drew to a close Town doubled their advantage when Diamond profited from an errant pass to drive forward and hit home an unstoppable shot from 20 yards.
Town continued to dominate into the second half and extended their lead in the 68th minute when Muldoon raced on to Thomson's neat through ball for his 12th goal of the season.
Holding a healthy advantage, both Brendan Kiernan and Harratt were afforded the opportunity to get valuable playing time under their belts.
A professional display saw Town shut down the game over the final stages and end any faint hopes that the visitors had of finding an unlikely way back into the game.
